Picnic and Pizza Wedding in Cheshire

01.01.1970

Looking back over the weddings we’ve done the catering for so far this year, Richard and Kat’s has got to be one of our favourites. Maybe it was because of the beautiful setting at Dunham Massey Village Hall. Or maybe it was because we were doing picnic baskets – one of our favourite styles of wedding catering. Either way, their wedding had something special about it.

We arrived at the venue – close to Dunham Massey, Altrincham – to set up in plenty of time. With the Village Hall itself acting as a space for welcome drinks and canapes, as well as the evening’s dancing later on, the main wedding breakfast was to be served in a large marquee in the grounds of the hall. As part of their package with us, the couple had ordered a three tier naked Victoria Sponge wedding cake, which we set about decorating with fruit and flowers before it took pride of place on their ‘great wedding bake off table’ (sadly, we weren’t eligible to enter the competition!)

As the guests arrived, followed by the bridal party in a gorgeous vintage splkit screen VW camper, our staff served Pimms and Prosecco, along with a selection of canapes. The canapes included asparagus tips wrapped in parma ham, Caprese skewers (mozzarella and sunblushed tomato), goats cheese and pear crostini, and southern Manchester fried chicken skewers – which we could barely make it out of the door from the kitchen with before they disappeared!

After the drinks reception, guests made their way into the marquee for the main event. Each long trestle table was served with vintage picnic crates, stacked full of delicious homemade treats. Each crate contained pork pies, an anti pasti meat selection, vegetable quiche, farmhouse pate, mushroom pate , olives, sunblushed tomato, a baguette, brie & grapes, cheddar & chutney, jars of mixed pickles, potato aioli, garden salad and hummus & crudites; all selected by the bride and groom to give plenty of choice to their 140 guests.

There were even individual boxes especially for the kids, and vegetarian and vegan boxes for those guests with dietary requirements.

After the wedding breakfast, guests were able to mingle and enjoy the sunshine, which came out just at the right time.

In the evening, it was pizzas! After heating up our wood fired oven to optimum temperature, guests were able to place their order for our chefs to freshly roll, top and cook individual pizzas. The first two customers, two ten year old girls, could hardly wait for their pizza and after eating it, declared it to be the best pizza they’d ever eaten!

These two younger wedding guests loved their pizzas so much, we managed to recruit them into team Thyme Out! They loved rounding up the guests, taking their orders and seeking out the owners of the pizzas as and when they were ready.

All in all, this fun-filled, creative wedding was a joy to be part of. Congratulations to Richard and Kat – thanks for choosing us as your wedding caterers. x
